Attend: Demystifying Indigenous Pedagogy and Reconciliation

The DDSB and your ETFO Durham Occasional Teachers’ Local are pleased to invite you to  join presenter Nancy Hamer Strahl, First Nation, Métis & Inuit Education Facilitator, for this timely and very important workshop.

The first part of this workshop will focus on Demystifying Indigenous Pedagogy.  It is designed to increase awareness of the First Nation, Métis and Inuit culture, history and perspectives.  Participants will leave the session with a better understanding of how to honour and value First Nation, Métis and Inuit cultures, histories and perspectives and learn how to access DDSB resources, programs and learn about the indigenous focus of the Board.

The second part of this workshop will explore “Project of Heart”, a hands-on collaborative, inter-generational, inter-institutional artistic endeavour.  It’s purpose is to commemorate the lives of the thousands of indigenous children who died as a result of the residential school experience.  It commemorates the families and communities to whom these children belonged.  This session will increase awareness of the Truth and Reconciliation calls to action through social justice and help develop a culture of pride in DDSB schools.
