Equity Committee Food Drive

The new Durham Occasional Teachers’ Local Equity Committee met for the first time on Monday December 5, 2016. We talked of many things as we strove to establish priorities of what we hope to accomplish on your behalf during the next two year term. We meet again on December 20th to keep the momentum going.

One of the items we discussed was donations to a Durham Region food bank. The festive season is upon us and whatever your family beliefs or however you choose to celebrate during this holiday time, there are many who are less fortunate than we are. Of these individuals in need, it is often the children that we teach who are the most vulnerable to poverty. Poverty and subsequently the use of food banks are on the rise. Therefore, we invite you to share some bounty. To those of you who will attend the Festive Soiree on Wednesday December 14 – we ask that you donate non-perishable food items. These food items will be delivered to Feed the Need. Feed the Need (feedtheneedindurham.ca) is a food hub in Oshawa that distributes food to 51 organizations including food banks, shelters and soup kitchens in Durham Region and therefore possibly the best use of any resources we may be able to offer. It is located at 371 Marwood Dr., Unit A in Oshawa.

Please understand that this is of a participatory nature only and therefore donate as much or as little as you deem fit. As we come together on December 14th to celebrate and enjoy each other’s company – do let us share what we can with others less fortunate.

Have a Safe and Happy Holiday Season.
