The Social Action Committee of Durham is launching the month of purple on November 1st, 2016  with a presentation ceremony of proclamations for the municipalities of OSHAWA, WHITBY, AJAX, PICKERING, UXBRIDGE, and BROCK.

Ceremony:     6:00pm at Civic Square, East Courtyard entrance , Oshawa City Hall at 50 Centre St., Oshawa

Reception:     6:30pm at the Robert McLaughlin Gallery, (across from City Hall/Civic Square), 72 Queen St

There is a reception following the ceremony featuring guest speaker Mr. Chris Buckley, President of the Ontario Federation of Labour and resident of Durham. Light refreshments will be served.

The Social Action Committee of Durham along with other communities in Ontario and in partnership with the London  Abuse Women`s Shelter  launch the annual provincial campaign “Shine the Light on Woman Abuse” to show abused women and their children that we support them in their quest to live a life free from violence and abuse; and to raise the profile of resources in the community that can help support abused women through their journey.

Why Purple? Purple is a symbol of courage, survival and honour, and has come to symbolize the fight to end woman abuse.

With your support, the Social Action Committee of Durham hopes, once again, to turn our communities purple during the month of November.
