Number routines are effective pedagogy in mathematics classrooms and help students with numerical fluency and automaticity. This session highlights what a number talk is and why it is important in a balanced numeracy program. Using the support of Sherry Parrish’s book Number Talks: Fractions, Decimals and Percentages, educators will explore the practical application of number talks within the elementary classroom. Specifically, how to develop fractional reasoning and strategies for operating with fractions, decimals and percentages.
