As per the Extension Agreement, District School Boards paid out a lump sum (0.5% of earned wages in the 2016 – 2017 school year) on or around November 1, 2017. This payment was a reimbursement for professional development costs and should not be considered earnings for EI purposes.
It has come to ETFO’s attention, that Service Canada is informing members that their EI benefits will be clawed back for the week they received the lump sum.
We are advising members in this predicament to seek “reconsideration” of the Service Canada decision. Members can use a template created by ETFO Provincial to assist in seeking reconsideration. You have thirty days to pursue a reconsideration from the date you were in receipt of the Service Canada letter or from the date you were verbally notified of the clawback. The template is specific for anyone on Maternity Leave but the reasons would be similar for those on Paternity Leave or with an open claim and working as a Daily OT.
If you have any questions or would like a copy of the template, don’t hesitate to contact the Local at
