ETFO Annual Meeting

Over 600 ETFO members from across the province attend the ETFO Annual Meeting to receive reports of the officers and committees, to elect officers, to receive financial statements and to debate and vote on motions.

ETFO members can read updates and see photos from the most recent Annual Meeting at the Annual Meeting blog at members.etfo.ca. Registration is required.

Making your LTO a success- Grades 1-3

Have you ever been in a class with no structure, no rules, no organization? It is extremely important to ensure all of these exist in your classroom. Let me show you how to thrive in your LTO. It is easier than you think.

Join your DOTL PL committee for the last workshop of the 2024-2025 school year. Presenter Candice Holt will be giving tips and tools and strategies to help make your LTO a success. You may even get some interview talking points. AS always there will be refreshments and a door prize. We look forward to seeing you there.

IEPs and Report Cards with PowerTeacher Pro – May 21, ’25

IEPs and Report Cards through PowerTeacher Pro: participants will get a general overview of the development of an IEP and how they connect to report cards. We will take examples of modifications and show how they are reflected on the report card. Teachers will also get an overview of how to use PowerTeacher Pro to complete reports.

Empowering Neurodiversity: Understanding Austism – May 22, ’25

Please join your PL committee in welcoming presenter Donna Graham from Kerry’s Place Autism Services. Donna will present this workshop which will help participants describe autism, identify strengths of people with autism and describe how strengths can be used as an opportunity for learning.

No lesson plan, No problem – April 29th, ’25

How frustrating is it to go into a class and there are no lesson plans? Plus the students are coming in soon. There’s no need to panic, the day can still be successful. Take a deep breath. Create a lesson plan in about 15 minutes with the information, techniques and materials you will receive during this workshop.

Loose Parts Workshop with Angela Odusanya – May 14th, ’25

The Durham permanent teachers’ local and the Durham permanent ECE local have invited the Durham OT local join them in this amazing opportunity.  The Durham OT local is only able to accept 20 participants for this workshop. It is very important that if you register, you attend. We are paying for a copy of the book and part of the presenters’ fee. If you register and find you can no longer attend please email as soon as you can so we can offer the spot to other members. **If you do not attend and give no notice you will be responsible for the cost of the book.

Financial Literacy – May 8th, ’25

Join presenter Ryan Tindale as he unpacks the financial literacy curriculum. He will unpack each grade and then give you a few lesson ideas you can use in your classroom. He may even mention his successful classroom economy.

Keep Calm and Play on: Music for OTs – May 6th, ’25

Please join us in welcoming ETFO presenter on the road Heather Weber in this exciting workshop. You will become more familiar with the core topics found in a music program and learn how to apply the overall Ontario curriculum expectations and the elements of music to any music program. Participants will leave this workshop with a better understanding of the elements of music, and possible activities and ideas to create an engaging and rewarding music program.

Classroom Management Workshop – April 22, ’25

Please join the PL committee in welcoming presenter Connie Zoet for this incredibly important topic. More and more OTs are having allegations made about them on a daily basis. 
This workshop will focus on strategies to help OTs and LTOs to prevent allegations, we will look at and hear about real life disciplines that have occurred within the DDSB and participants may be able to share their experiences with classroom management and situations that may have impacted them directly.

  • This is an in person workshop and it has a 2 hour time duration as the topic is so important. Please make sure you can attend for the whole session.
  • There will be refreshments and our door prize as well as the opportunity to complete the survey for a chance to win 1 of 2 AQs of your choice.

Lights, Camera, Action! Drama & Dance for the Primary Grades

In this hands on workshop you will have the opportunity to learn and practice the secrets to running a drama and dance class. You will have fun, be more confident and maybe make a friend. Join our very own local executive member at large, Candice Holt for this very engaging opportunity.

Math Websites & Coding

Ryan Tindale will teach you about some of the DDSB supported programs for Math. We’ll look at Knowledgehook, Prodigy, REFLEX, and other sites you can use in your classroom. As well as how to successfully implement coding into your math block.

UFLI: 2nd Edition

Join your ETFO Durham OT local Professional Learning Committee in welcoming back presenter, DDSB teacher Allison Theis for the Science of Reading as the foundation of literacy programming. UFLI is an integral part of structured literacy in the classroom.
